Residence and Work Permit
To work in Slovenia, you need a single residence and work permit, which is issued by the Administrative Unit (Piranska cesta 2, 6000 Koper), while the Employment Service of Slovenia (ESS) issues a consent to the single permit. Nationals of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia need a work permit issued by the ESS (Kmečka ulica 2, 6000 Koper), in accordance with the agreements between Slovenia and the two countries.
The single permit allows third-country nationals to enter, reside, find employment and work in Slovenia.
Registration of Residence
A permanent residence is the address in the Republic of Slovenia where an individual permanently resides. You can submit your registration of permanent residence application at the Administrative Unit (Piranska cesta 2, Koper). You must register your permanent residence within eight days of moving in or being served with the permanent residence permit. When you register your new permanent residence, the old one will cease.
If you want to receive a certificate of the registration of your permanent residence, you must indicate this in your application.
You must register your temporary residence at your temporary address if you are a national or a foreigner with a permanent residence permit but you intend to stay away from your permanent address for more than 90 days. .

Bank (Transaction) Account
A transaction account is used to make payments and for other purposes related to the provision of banking services. You also need a bank account so that your employer can pay your salary into it. To open a transaction account, contact the bank of your choice to get further information from the advisers.

Health Insurance
If you are legally resident in Slovenia, you must have a health insurance in place (obtain a health insurance card and an insurance number). By paying the healthcare contribution, you are entitled to free basic health services and other benefits. If you do not have health insurance, there are some basic health services available, such as the Pro Bono Outpatient Clinic for people without health insurance cover, which is run by the Koper Community Health Centre.
Taxes
Everyone who receives a payment (income) must pay taxes. If you are employed, your tax will be paid by your employer.

Tax Identification Number and Obtaining a Tax Identification Number
A tax identification number can be obtained by a natural person. If you are a natural person and you do not have a permanent or temporary residence in Slovenia (foreign natural person), you must complete an application for entry in the tax register if you earn taxable income in Slovenia or if you are the owner of taxable movable or immovable property.
You can obtain a Slovenian tax ID number for a (foreign) natural person by submitting a completed and signed DR-02 form together with supporting documents to any financial office (Ministry of Finance, Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia, etc.), either in person or by proxy, by ordinary mail or electronically as your own document via the eDavki FURS e-commerce service. If your proxy will be filing the application for the registration of a natural person in the tax register instead of you, the application must also be accompanied by a power of attorney.

Core Activities:
The Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (FURS) is responsible for collecting taxes, social security contributions, customs duties, excise duties and other charges. It provides security and protection for society and individuals, including through activities to prevent the smuggling of illegal substances and counterfeit goods, and by controlling the transport of goods. The Financial Administration strives to facilitate, as far as is possible, the meeting of obligations and exercising of rights, e.g. to claim tax relief, by eligible persons. Core Activities: The Government Office for the Support and Integration of Migrants provides accommodation, care and psychosocial support to applicants for the international protection and integration of persons granted international protection into Slovenian society. Persons applying for international protection are received by the Reception and Support Division, which provides accommodation at the Asylum Centre or one of its units.
Activities for Immigrants
- The Asylum Centre runs programmes to ensure that asylum seekers can exercise their rights in accordance with the legislation in force,
- Help with integration into Slovenian society – each person granted protected status is assigned an integration counsellor, who helps devise a personal integration plan, accommodation in one of the integration houses, enrolment in various programmes, the most important being the Slovenian language course, preparing a migration strategy.

Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia
